The Corporate team at law firm Ward Hadaway has advised on the sale of a business travel specialist to one of the UK's largest independent travel agents.
Katherine Hay-Heddle, Corporate Partner at Ward Hadaway, led the firm’s team advising the shareholders of Gateshead-based Business Travel on its sale to Sunderland-based Hays Travel for an undisclosed sum.
Ward Hadaway’s specialist tax, property and employment teams were also involved in advising on the transaction.
Business Travel has specialised in corporate and business travel services since 1984, serving clients in a range of sectors including construction, oil & gas, banking, retail and technology.
Hays Travel plans to keep the Business Travel brand and take on the company’s workforce. Founder Christine Nugent will now lead the corporate travel division at Hays Travel.
Katherine Hay-Heddle said: “We are delighted to have helped to secure the successful sale of Business Travel to Hays Travel.
“Our experience in advising on the sale of thriving owner-managed businesses helped to ensure that this transaction progressed to a conclusion which suits both parties.
“The combination of two well-established and highly respected travel specialists bodes well for the future of the business.
“It’s great to see the travel business moving forward with the backing of Hays Travel and we wish both Christine and Hays Travel the best on this exciting venture.”
Christine Nugent, founder and managing director of Business Travel, said: “Having built up the business for over 30 years, it was vital to ensure that the right deal was concluded.
“Katherine and the team at Ward Hadaway did an excellent job, keeping us up to date at every stage of the process and we are now looking forward to an exciting future.”
