National health win for Ward Hadaway

LAW firm Ward Hadaway has been appointed to two national panels providing legal advice to healthcare organisations.

The firm, which has offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester, has been named on the panel to provide advice on clinical liability cases to the NHS Litigation Authority and 15 other leading health bodies.

Ward Hadaway has also won a place on the panel to provide legal advice on regulatory, health and disciplinary matters to the same organisations, which include the Care Quality Commission, the Health Research Authority, the NHS Commissioning Board and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

Ward Hadaway is one of only eight law firms across the country to be chosen for both panels.

The UK Top 100 firm went through an extensive procurement process and interview before being selected. The new panel arrangements will be in place for the next four years.

Previously, the NHS Litigation Authority operated a panel system on its own, which Ward Hadaway also had a place on, with the other 15 organisations putting in place their own individual arrangements for legal advice.

Jeffrey Keeble, Partner and Head of Healthcare at Ward Hadaway, said: “We are delighted to be appointed to both of these panels.

“We have carried out work for the NHS Litigation Authority for a number of years so we are extremely pleased at the prospect of continuing to work for them, as well as excited at the opportunity of working with these other nationally recognised organisations.

“Healthcare is a rapidly changing sector and one which is of vital importance to the nation so we look forward to continuing to use our experience and expertise to assist the work of these leading organisations.”

The new arrangements are expected to generate substantial savings for the 16 organisations over the coming four years, as well as giving them access to high quality legal advice.

Catherine Dixon, Chief Executive of the NHS LA, said: “We’re delighted to have secured what I am confident will be excellent quality legal services for the NHS at a price which ensures value for money”.

As well as advising national organisations within the NHS, Ward Hadaway also provides legal advice to more than 60 NHS Trusts across England, from the Scottish Borders to Cornwall.

The firm has also advised on a number of ground-breaking projects in the healthcare sector, including the first pharmacy services outsourcing in the NHS and the North’s first transfer of services from two Primary Care Trusts to an NHS Foundation Trust.
