Video: Fire and the Building Safety Bill – a developer review
17th February, 2022
Introduced in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy and Dame Judith Hackitt's subsequent independent review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, the Building Safety Bill is said to be the most fundamental reform of regulation across the construction and residential property sectors in living memory.
Due to become law in April 2022, it will have a wide-ranging impact on the way developers and contractors build, operate and refurbish buildings, and on the rights of those who live and work in them.
In this video, architects Ryder, engineers and fire safety consultants Hydrock and Ward Hadaway look specifically at the changes to fire safety standards contained in the Bill, and the impact that this is likely to have for developers, whether commercial, residential, health and local authority estate, or social housing providers.
Using the Design / Build / Operate process as our roadmap, we look from all angles at the changes this will bring, and implications on time, cost and quality for a project. Experts from Ward Hadaway’s construction, housing management and regulatory teams contribute alongside specialist architects and fire safety consultants, it provides a fully rounded review of this complex but all important topic. Chair Alistair McDonald from Ward Hadaway’s Built Environment team puts the questions to our panellists, including some of your own questions submitted in advance.
