Ward Hadaway host sell-out Women in the Law UK event on Women in Sport and Business
2nd May, 2019
A Women in the Law UK event sponsored by award-winning Manchester law firm Ward Hadaway has been hailed a huge success after it sold out in record time.
More than 50 attended the event at Tattu in Manchester to hear from a range of speakers. They included American-born English international football goalkeeper, Karen Bardsley, boxer Stacey Copeland, board member of the Rugby Football League Chris Brindley MBE, Women in the Law UK founder and practicing barrister Sally Penni and Yvonne Harrison, an award-winning executive with a wealth of experience within the sport and physical activity sector.
Women in the Law UK is a not-for-profit professional networking organisation which exists to support the next leaders in law and encourage career progression through personal development.
As part of the event, speakers covered issues such as what lawyers can learn from inspiring women in sport and how it can create inclusive cultures, what challenges and hurdles they have had to overcome in their career and inspiration tips on how to succeed in an ever changing and tough environment.
Charlotte Beck, Family Partner at Ward Hadaway’s Manchester office, said: “We have been delighted to support this event which shines a light on the success of inspiring women in law, business and sport.”
“Stacey Copeland spoke of always remembering your “why’s” which really resonated with me because there are times when things do not work out the way you had hoped and you can lose sight of what you are trying to achieve, so it’s important to remember why you started out on the path in the first place.”
Rachel Birks, Professional Regulatory Partner at Ward Hadaway, added: “I was incredibly proud, as a partner at the firm, that Ward Hadaway chose to support this event with such inspiring people, which took place on our doorstep in Manchester. There was so much energy and interest in the room, and so much inspiring content to take away and apply.”
Jodi Tuson, a Family solicitor at Ward Hadaway in Manchester, added: “As a young lawyer, this event has been inspirational as it highlights just what you can achieve with hard work and determination. It was refreshing to hear about the times each professional had encountered and the ways they have overcome and dealt with each one.”
Sally Penni, founder of Women in Law UK, added: “We at Women in the law UK like to work with progressive organisations and we were delighted to have the support of Ward Hadaway with its many female leaders.
“Our sold-out event, which I was delighted to chair, taught us much about what the legal profession can learn from leaders in sport such Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson, female boxer Stacey Copeland and of course Karen Bardsley, Yvonne Harrison and Chris Brindley MBE in leadership, reflection and learning from failure. We look forward to working with Ward Hadaway again in the future.”
