Nick is the Executive Partner for our Newcastle Office and a partner in our Built Environment team.

Nick advises on all aspects of Real Estate matters. Nick has extensive experience in acting on acquisitions, disposals, development, leasing and financing of Real Estate assets.

Nick has particular expertise in advising large landowners (including Local Authorities) on strategic development and regeneration projects often with national significance.

Nick also forms part of our Natural Resources team and assists landowners, operators and developers on all Real Estate aspects of transactions regarding natural resources and renewable energy.

As Executive Partner for the Newcastle Office, Nick is responsible for leading the growth and development of the firm’s teams based in Newcastle and serving the wider North East region.

Nick is passionate about the North East and the role that business can play in supporting the growth and increased prosperity of the region. He sits on a number of regional organisations to work with local business leaders to try and achieve this including Development Consensus and the CBI Future Leaders network.

Nick is a Next generation partner lawyer in the most recent publications of the independent legal directories Legal 500. Nick is described by clients as “very professional and intelligent with a friendly and approachable nature”.

Experience

Nick’s experience includes the following highlights:

  • Advising a local authority in its capacity as landowner on all planning, development and real estate aspects of a Garden Village scheme
  • Acting on behalf of a large regional land promotion entity in respect of over 20 strategic options and promotion agreements to secure land for future development
  • Advising a local authority and combined authority in relation to a £150m redevelopment of a mainline railway station and associated facilities.
  • Advising a local authority on all regeneration and development projects within the Town Centre and surrounding areas for over 8 years.
  • Advising a developer/landowner client on all aspects of a retail park development from land acquisition, planning and development through to securing the tenant base via a series of development agreements for leases and the re-financing of the site
  • Frequently advising a large landed estate landowner/developer on acquisitions, disposals, landlord and tenant matters and developments across all sectors
  • Acting as a trusted family advisor to a number of small estates and agricultural clients on all land and property aspects of their businesses
  • Advising a Port Authority on the legal aspects of managing and optimising its property assets
  • Frequently acting on the acquisition, disposal and financing of large multi-let industrial and retail estates
