Most candidates will need to prove their knowledge of English to apply for this visa. This can be done by:
- passing an approved English language test with at least CEFR level A1 in speaking and listening; or
- an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognised by the UK National Recognition Information Centre as being equal to a UK bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
You do not need to prove your English language abilities if you are:
- over 65 years old;
- unable to because of a long term physical or mental condition – instead you need to provide medical evidence; or
- you are from a majority English speaking country – a list of these countries can be found here.
